About the event
LeWayne Fisher is an interior designer and professor by day, and a jazz bassist and bandleader by night. Having played the bass in big bands and combos all his life, LeWayne has found his permanent niche with a Providence, RI base, leading his bands all over New England.
LeWayne’s first call for the rhythm section is guitarist Jim Bastian, who approaches his harmonic role in the quartet with a unique Wes Montgomery-styled pianistic quality. Front man John Piazza Jr., who is known as a formidable bebop trumpeter in Eastern Mass, brings a strong lyrical approach to his melody statements and improvisations, and clearly adds a lot of excitement and panache to the quartet. Dave Nelson on the drum set completes the quartet. As a life-long player and student of the craft, Dave has a natural sensitivity for musical expressivity and accompaniment.
When LeWayne is asked “why Jazz?”, his response is to reference pianist Bill Evans, who answered that question with “because I have a need to swing”. Fisher Jazz groups are all about SWING!
